Immoral? Really?

These guys are wearing me out. From Real Clear Politics:

CHIP REID, CBS NEWS: "This weekend, when the Vice President was laying out all the things that you have to do and how much -- when he said you have to ask those who are struggling in this economy to bear the burden and let the most fortunate among us off the hook, he said that borders on being immoral. Does the President agree with that?"

JAY CARNEY, WH PRESS SEC: "Why, I think he does. Yes."

That exchange was in reference to GOP debt-cutting efforts.

Give me a break. We are $14 trillion in debt, not counting unfunded entitlements. Those are another $60 trillion or so give or take a little. We are already borrowing 42 cents of every dollar we spend. A nation cannot continue to exist doing that and there aren't enough tax dollars in the world to square up the accounts.

I'll tell you what's immoral. It's immoral to promise people benefits they are never going to see. It's immoral to pass on to our kids and grand-kids a nation worse off than the one we got. This is going to hurt like a son-of-a-bitch sooner or later. And the sooner we face up to the problem the less bitter the medicine will be.
