Every man for himself...

Dateline Los Angeles by way of AP:

Gas station fluke results in $1.10 pump price

"Word spread quickly about a Los Angeles gas station selling premium unleaded for $1.10-a-gallon, but it wasn't a promotion. The owner says the too-good-to-be-true price was a computer glitch that cost him $21,000.

"The Torrance Daily Breeze reports that within four hours, about 7,000 gallons of premium were pumped at the discounted rate.

"Station owner Kenny Nguyen says the attendant on duty was busy staffing the convenience store and register.

"Nguyen hopes motorists who got the break come back and pay the real price."

Is this who we've become? Assuming an average of 20 gallons per fill-up, something on the order of 350 people knowingly and willingly screwed the station owner. Not the evil oil companies, but an independent business man who I happen to know makes no more than 8 cents per gallon pumped at the best of times.

Has the moral decline of society really come to the point where 350 people steal from someone and not a single person felt obliged to go inside and say something like, "Dude! Your pumps are messed up."

We're better than that, folks. This isn't funny. Everyone involved ought to be ashamed.
