A teachable moment

One can learn a lot by watching people who aren't aware that anyone is watching. From the Daily Caller:

"During an exclusive dinner hosted Monday by the Alfalfa Club, Obama adviser Valerie Jarret had just such a moment. And were it not for an irritated tipster, Jarret might have walked away from the dinner unblemished.

"According to our tipster, Jarrett was seated at the head table along with several other big-name politicians and a handful of high-ranking military officials. As an officer sporting several stars walked past Jarrett, she signaled for his attention and said, “I’d like another glass of wine.”

"The guy dutifully went up and got her a glass of wine, and then came back and gave it to her and took a seat at the table"

Yeah, I know. We all make stupid but honest mistakes. The problem I have is that Ms Jarret gives us a glimpse of what I see as the root problem with the political leadership of both parties. They think of themselves as, "elite," and the rest of us as servants. Or, to use another analogy I've grown fond of, they are the ranchers and the rest of us are cattle. As you might imagine I take umbrage with that line of thinking.

I also note that the military officer behaved with admirable class. With very few exception our men and women of the military are the cream of society. They don't like being sent away from family to bad places all over the globe, but they volunteer anyway. They serve because of their love of country and sense of duty. Can you do better?
